International Day of the Girl: Honoring the Power of Education to Transform Lives
This month, we invite you to stand with girls in Sierra Leone as we celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child (October 11) — a day to recognize the power, potential, and promise of every girl.
At Develop Africa, we believe that girls’ education matters — it transforms lives, strengthens communities, and builds brighter futures. When girls are educated, they gain the confidence and skills to become leaders, innovators, and change-makers in their communities.
We’re thrilled to celebrate two remarkable students, Marina and Sia, whose achievements remind us just how impactful your support can be.
Marina’s Story
Marina has been part of the Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) family since her nursery school days. With ongoing donor support, she’s received essential school materials, a solar light, and financial assistance throughout her education. Recently, Marina sat for the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) and achieved an impressive aggregate of 320 — a tremendous accomplishment that reflects her hard work and determination.
Sia’s Story
Sia joined Develop Africa when she was in Junior Secondary School (JSS 1). Through consistent encouragement and steady support, she has continued to excel academically. Sia scored an excellent aggregate of 12 in her BECE exams and most recently earned an overall score of 98%, securing the first position in her SSS 2 class.
These outstanding results are more than academic success — they are proof of what happens when girls are given the tools and opportunities to thrive.
Your generosity makes stories like these possible. When you invest in girls’ education, you help unlock potential, inspire leadership, and create ripple effects of change that reach families and entire communities.
Together, we are proving that when girls are supported, they rise, shine, and achieve greatness. Join us in celebrating this International Day of the Girl! Support girls’ education today and help us continue empowering future leaders like Marina and Sia.
