Celebrating The Progress of The Girls

Girls in Class

As each week passes by, we celebrate the progress the girls are making in their pregnancy journey. They have been dealing with morning sickness, transportation challenges, and a mindset of self-resignation - among other things. The sessions and times of sharing have given us a new perspective into their world.

Classes have been going on successfully at the Centre and we are seeing gradual progress in the lives of these young ladies.  Recap sessions in the morning for all categories give us an opportunity to assess their commitment to the previous subjects taught.  We are also able to see how well they studied at home. We start each day with exercise, recap of previous sessions, brain teasers on general knowledge and roll call. In the recap sessions, the girls are given the opportunity to participate in some spelling exercises that go over what they learned the previous day.

The topics we are currently covering include Christian Counseling, Mathematics, English Language, Personal Hygiene, Communication Skills and Career Talk.  During Career Talk, the instructor is encouraging the ladies not to be influenced by the decision of friends, relatives or other parties.  He explained to them that they must consider passion as a major indicator - as it drives success.

Program Impact
In the Communication Skills class the ladies expressed their profound thanks and appreciation to all donors, tutors and facilitators of this program for giving them the opportunity to learn despite their present situation. They stated that the alternative - sitting at home without any plan for their lives - was not helping them.

We have observed an improvement in their reading and spelling. Even though they dropped off at secondary school level, it is clear that their foundation was weak and needing improvement.

Challenge:
Looking forward some of the ladies are eager to go back to school at the start of the new academic year.  However, many of them do not have the needed financial support.
